Property Tax Relief for Elderly and Disabled - The State of Tennessee has a property tax relief program for qualified Tennessee homeowners.  If you are an Elderly or Disabled homeowner, you may qualify for state funded property tax relief toward your 2006 City of Oak Ridge property taxes if you meet the following requirements on or before December 31, 2006:

 

Your main residence (home) for calendar 2006 was in Tennessee and you owned and lived in your home in 2006.

 

Your age is 65 or older on or before December 31, 2006 to qualify as Elderly   OR   you are totally and permanently disabled as rated by the Social Security Administration or other qualified agency on or before December 31, 2006 to qualify as Disabled.

 

The combined 2005 annual income for ALL property owners cannot exceed $20,000.

 

Homeowners can obtain applications for state property tax relief from the City of Oak Ridge Utility Business Office at 200 S. Tulane Avenue.  Please call the City at 425-3404 for more information.  The deadline for filing an application is September 4, 2006.  Property taxes must be paid by the application deadline of September 4.  The maximum City property tax relief that will be paid by the State of Tennessee for 2006 is $159.38.
