NASA TURNS
50! |
|
Fifty years ago, on
October 1, 1958, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
began a history of scientific and cultural achievements.
Using amazing photographs from spaceships and stations,
satellites, telescopes, probes and rovers, Spacecam (NF
778.350) brings together beautiful visions of the final frontier.
Terry Hope in co-operation with NASA has collected photographs
from cameras free from the confines of planet Earth, including
mankind’s first walk on the moon and deep space galaxy clusters.
Apollo 13 (DVD FEAT APOLLO) was just another routine space
flight until NASA officials heard these words, “Houston, we have
a problem.” Ron Howard directs this riveting suspense film that
tells a true story of courage, faith and scientific ingenuity.

Space Shuttle : the first 20 years
(NF 629.441) is a collection of personal stories of 77
astronauts. They share their recollections of working on board the
world’s only reusable spaceship. The astronauts tell in detail
what it’s like to liftoff, float weightless and view the Earth
from 200 miles up.
What do NASA astronauts wear?
U. S. Space Gear : outfitting the astronaut (NF 629.470) by
Lillian D. Kozloski introduces space buffs to the development of
the space suit. With more than 150 illustrations, many from the
Smithsonian Institution’s photo archive, this book covers suit
design for each manned spaceflight program from Mercury to the
present day space shuttle.
