Burnham Woods

This neighborhood watch group includes the following streets: Tusculum Dr, Tiffin Dr, Treveca Ln, Trenton Rd, Tidewater Ln, Tempura Dr, Terri Ln, Tracy Ln, Telemann Ln, Trevose Ln, Tansi Ln, and Tamara Ln.

This group is rather large and has been divided up amongst several of the residents. Eugene Hawkins, better known as "Hawk", first approached Officer Newman in wanting to start or actually rejuvenate the neighborhood watch program for Burnham Woods. Years ago, Burnham Woods had a very active neighborhood watch program in which they would meet and discuss concerns in the subdivision. As time has passed, the neighborhood has changed. Families have moved, elders have passed, and the dynamics have evolved.

With a new generation, the neighborhood watch program has been redeveloped. Teddy Ratledge attended a meeting that was being held a Methodist Medical Center for several new neighborhood watch groups. He was very vocal and asked Officer Newman lots of questions about the police department and other city departments.

The first meeting for Burnham Woods was held at the Oak Ridge Municipal Building court room. There were approximately 50 households represented at the meeting. A couple of other meetings were held for Burnham Woods when plans were formulated to have a neighborhood trash pick up and cook out before Halloween.

The trash pick up was a success! A bicycle, car stereo, lots of paper trash, a bag of marijuana, and a can that had been used for a smoking pipe were all found. The prize was a car that had been abandoned on E Vanderbilt Dr at Tiffin Dr. The vehicle had all the windows, headlights, taillights, and mirrors busted out. All four tires had been flattened. The vehicle alone invited problems.

The cook out was GREAT! The cook was Eugene Hawkins and his famous hamburgers and hot dogs!

The biggest complaint that many of the residents had prior to the formation or reactivation of the Neighborhood Watch group was drug dealing in the middle of the street. After a few months of all the group members being active, the biggest complaint has been kids playing football in the middle of the street. This is a dramatic improvement and is contributed to the neighborhood!
