SUBJECT:                ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION RECRUITMENT
 
POSITION:               Fleet Maintenance Technician (Mechanic)
                                   Equipment Shop - Public Works (Vacancy due to Retirement)
                 
SALARY GRADE:      17 ($16.14 to $20.18 per hour)
 
PRIMARY JOB TASKS:
 
1.      Performs preventative maintenance, diagnostic testing and repair on all City vehicles and equipment including police cars, fire and utility trucks, and light and heavy construction equipment as well as chains saws, leaf blowers, air compressors, pumps and generators.
 
2.      Troubleshoots and repairs various vehicle subsystems including air conditioning, electrical, fuel, brakes, emission, suspension and hydraulics.
 
3.      Maintains daily records of maintenance work performed and equipment maintenance records.
 
4.      Performs 24-hour on-call services as needed.
 
MINIMUM/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
1.      Graduation from high school or equivalent with vocational and/or technical training in motorized equipment maintenance.
 
2.    At least five (5) years experience performing preventative maintenance and repair on gasoline and diesel powered equipment required.
 
3.    Must have the ability to use all necessary hand and power tools to very exacting tolerances.
 
4.    Some experience or training in welding desirable.
 
5.    Must possess a valid State of Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License with an “N” endorsement or obtain within six months of appointment.
 
6.    Must be able to establish and maintain acceptable working relationships with other employees and supervisors, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
 
7.    Must have adequate visual, sound and odor perception and discrimination to inspect and diagnose motorized equipment.

SUBJECT:                   ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
 
POSITION:                  Library Clerk – Children’s Room (vacancy due to promotion)
Regular Part-time – 20 hours per week (Monday through Friday afternoons with a weekend every six weeks)
 
PAY GRADE:              11        ($ 12.05 per hour before standard deductions)
 
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
 
1.           Assists library patrons (especially children and parents) in locating books and related materials appropriate for age group and interest.
 
2.           Issues applications for library cards, checks out books, collects fines and shelves books.
 
3.           Aids librarians in library-related duties.
 
4.           May assist with processing of books and materials.
 
5.           May participate in children’s programming.
 
DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Graduation from high school supplemented by some college level liberal arts courses and experience in working with children.
 
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
 
1.           Working knowledge of the routine operations of a public library.
                               
2.           Knowledge of basic office skills such as typing (50 w.p.m.) alphabetizing, working with computers, working with money and filing.
 
3.           Knowledge of and interest in children and in children’s books and materials.
 
4.           Ability to locate materials quickly in a Dewey decimal system.
 
5.           Ability to work quietly and effectively with and for the general public.
