This neighborhood watch group started in late 2004. Officer Newman was contacted by Peggy Condra because of some suspicious activity that was being observed on the street. W Arrowwood Rd is a main road with a lot of traffic that cuts through from Arkansas Ave to California Ave. Alder Ln is a dead end street that connects to W Arrowwood Rd.
A start up meeting was held at Peggy's house on Alder Ln. Most of the households on both streets were represented. Discussion for the future were discussed. The neighborhood witnessed a devastating fire in December of 2004. A house at the end of Alder Ln was consumed by flames. A brave and noble neighbor, Noel Douglas, saw the flames. He entered the house and saved three children and their mother from the smoke and flames. Upon arrival to the scene, Officer Newman and Douglas helped the father out of the burning house through a bedroom window. If it had not been for the quick, heroic efforts of Douglas, there would could have been five tragic deaths.
On one hot summer Saturday, the W Arrowwood Rd and Alder Ln residence gathered together with their yard tools and got to work. Many of the residents tackled the chore of cutting back brush, trees, and anything else that was obstructing the yards. After spending several hours working, they took a break for lunch. After lunch, the kids went swimming while many of the adults finished the yard work. The improvements were enormous! During the clean up, the neighbors gained a sense of pride in their community again.
