Teller Village Apartments

Teller Village apartments off Tuskegee Dr were built in 2003. Since the opening, the apartments started off on a bad foot. They had owners who were more concerned with renting to anyone rather than completing thorough back ground checks. With that, a lot of trouble came with the new apartments. There was drug dealing, loitering, loud music, disturbances, and many other problems.

In 2004, Teller Village was sold to a new owner. Roxie Pridemore was hired as the property manager. She had a huge challenge before her with all the problems that had been building. Roxie took over with a vengeance. She evicted over 70 parties in her first years as manager. Roxie became the "law of Teller Village!" She began enforcing the leases and making the residents accountable for their actions. Roxie did not hesitate to call the police when she needed a little "back up."

Roxie and Officer Newman began conversing about Neighborhood Watch. A meeting was set up and held at the apartments in their community room. Several of the residents attended and learned about reporting suspicious activities. Before long, the residents were calling the police department on a regular basis. In conjunction, Roxie stepped up her enforcement even more.

After a few meetings, the residents reported that they weren't watching the drug deals take place anymore. Every time someone was seen sitting in a parked car that did not belong to the apartments, they were called on. The pressure on the "drug dealers" kept mounting and eventually ran the dopers away.

A side from enforcing the lease, Roxie took the neighborhood watch a step farther. She began to organize residents on Thursday nights for a walk. Many of the residents came out wearing their neighborhood watch shirts and would walk the complex. The visibility and activity only emphasized the strength of the neighborhood watch participants.

Roxie has had several community events at the apartments. During the summer she held a pool party and joined up with Comcast for free pizza to all those that attended. At Halloween, a costume contest was held for both kids and adults alike. There were 20-30 participants in the costume contest. The Oak Ridge Fire Dept brought out the ladder truck for the kids to climb around on. Anderson County EMS provided an Ambulance for everyone to get in and see what equipment they use while treating an injured or sick person. And the police mobile substation was on hand for touring. Halloween bags were given to all that attended. The bags were supplied by the Oak Ridge Police Dept and were filled with safety information and candy.

Teller Village is now the ideal apartment complex to live in. The buildings are beautiful, well maintained, and free of criminal activity. This was accomplished only by Roxie and the efforts of the residents who wanted to make a difference!
