LaSalle Rd

This neighborhood watch group includes the following streets: LaSalle Rd, Loyola Ln, Livingston Rd, and Locust Ln.

LaSalle Rd neighborhood watch group was started by the Oak Ridge Housing Authority (ORHA). ORHA owns and operates an apartment complex on LaSalle Rd just north of Livingston Rd. James Carson, director of ORHA, contacted Officer Newman about improvements they were making at the apartments and wanted to help improve the neighborhood as a whole.

A meeting was set for a Saturday morning at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church, which is located across from LaSalle Park. Several of the residents attended the meeting and wanted to express their concerns. There was a large amount of drug activity at the apartment complex. This in-turn created other livability issues such as noise disturbances, fighting, lots of traffic, speeding vehicles, etc.

Andrea Smith volunteered to take over as block captain for the area. Several more meetings were held and the residents learned how to report the activities that were disrupting the area. A clean up was held along with a cook out. The Oak Ridge Police Dept brought out the mobile substation and parked it in front of the apartment where a lot of drug traffic had been reported.

The bus caused a huge disruption in the drug business. Numerous cars were observed traveling to the area and would make quick turns once they saw the bus and other marked police cars. Days after the clean up, the tenant with the most action was evicted by ORHA. Since she no longer lives in the area, the neighborhood has became the quiet community it once was.
