SUBJECT:                   ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION RECRUITMENT
 
POSITION:                 ELECTRIC ENGINEER
 
PAY GRADE:              30         ($62,670 - $78,300 per year DOQ and Experience)
 
PRIMARY JOB TASKS:
 
1.  Under the general supervision of the Electric Engineering Division Manager, designs modifications, extensions and improvements to 13kV underground and over-head electrical distribution system and 69 kV transmission system and the associated substations and makes cost estimates for projects performed by the department.
 
2.  Reviews commercial and industrial development plans and works with developers, contractors and customers in the installation of electrical infrastructure and makes frequent field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
 
3.  Aids in the maintenance of detailed records of system status and improvements.
 
4.  Communicates orally and in writing with other City departments, customers, contractors and developers.

5.  Provides assistance with electrical system operation during emergency events.
 
MINIMUM/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

 
1.       BSEE with a power option supplemented by some experience in electrical engineering work preferably in design, extension and improvements of 13 kV underground and over-head systems desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
2.       Must possess registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Tennessee. Those without a PE may be considered for the position of Electric Project Manager.
 
  
3.       Knowledge of the principles, practices, materials and equipment used in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of electric distribution and transmission systems and knowledge of all applicable electrical codes and regulations as well as knowledge of electrical testing equipment.
  
4.       Ability to prepare specifications and reports; ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical and electrical equipment plans and specifications; ability to operate simple tools on job sites.
 
5.       Ability to operate microcomputer with database, word processing and spreadsheet experience preferable.
 
6.       Must be able to establish and maintain acceptable working relationships with other employees, supervisors, engineers, contractors, architects, developers and the general public, and be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD 
 
 
The City of Oak Ridge (cortn.org) is accepting applications for School Crossing Guard. This is an ideal position for students, homemakers and/or retirees to make extra spending money. Primary job responsibility is to be stationed at critical areas in the school vicinity to ensure safe crossing for school children. Applicants must be responsible adults at least age 18 and must be able to arrange their personal schedules so that they can work for one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon on school days. Applicants must be able to work effectively with children and the general public and must be willing to attend the required training before beginning work. Duties are performed in all types of weather conditions. Normal starting salary is $ 8.90 to $ 11.00 per hour. Successful applicants will be subject to background investigation and drug screening.
