Overview The Legal Department consists of three individuals: The City Attorney, the Senior Staff Attorney and the Legal Secretary. The department's responsibilities, in general, are: To give legal advice to City Council, the City Manager, City departments, officers, employees, boards and commissions concerning issues related to their official powers and duties. To defend the City in all litigation. To interpret laws, statutes, regulations and ordinances. To prepare, review and approve contracts, leases, bonds and other legal documents in which the City is a party. To prepare or assist with the preparation of ordinances. To collect or assist in the collection of debts due to the City. To prosecute City ordinance violations. The Legal Department is also staff liaison to the Oak Ridge Beer Permit Board. This board is responsible for issuing all permits to sell, manufacture and distribute beer with the City Limits. This board also has the authority to suspend and revoke beer permits for violations of the City's ordinances pertaining to beer. |
