Greenbelts

    

In the city's residential area, more that 1,275 acres are natural environs, permanently set aside as greenbelts.  Greenbelts, which are owned by the city, are open to the public for hiking, birdwatching, and similar pursuits.

One series of greenbelts on Black Oak Ridge contains a federally designated National Recreation Trail, the North Ridge Trail, which extends 7.5 miles along the city's northern perimeter.
 

	ORNL photo		Arboretum and Lakefront The public is always welcome to enjoy the 250 acres of forest and horticultural gardens that comprise the University of Tennessee Arboretum in Oak Ridge. Two city parks and a federally maintained recreation site provide waterfront access to Melton Hill Reservoir, and a third city lakefront park, Haw Ridge, offers visitors 865 acres of natural beauty and wildlife habitats.
