OAK RIDGE MUNICIPAL PLANNING COMMISSION
Established by Ordinance No. 6-04, pursuant to the provisions of Tennessee
Code Annotated Section 12-4-101, as a successor to the Oak Ridge Regional
Planning Commission.
Composition: The Oak Ridge Municipal Planning Commission consists of ten
(10) members, as follows: the Mayor or the Mayor’s designee, one (1)
member of the Oak Ridge City Council who is selected by a majority vote of
the Council, and eight (8) members appointed by the Mayor after receiving a
recommendation from City Council. The term of the Mayor or the Mayor’s
designee runs concurrently with the Mayor’s term of office. The term of
the City Council member is two years, or at the expiration of the member’s
City Council term of office, whichever occurs first. The eight members
appointed by the Mayor on recommendation of City Council serve four-year,
staggered terms so that the terms of two members expire each year. The
Commission elects from its membership a chairperson, a vice-chairperson,
and a secretary who serve for one year with eligibility for reelection. A
majority of the Commission constitutes a quorum for the transaction of
business, and all actions require the concurring vote of a majority of the
members present.
General Powers and Duties: The powers, duties and functions of the Oak
Ridge Municipal Planning Commission are as prescribed by State law for
municipal planning commissions, located in Title 13, Chapter 4 of the
Tennessee Code Annotated. In addition, the Commission submits to City
Council, in accordance with the City Charter, a long-term capital
improvement program with recommendations as to the priority of individual
projects and the methods of financing them.
Meetings: The Planning Commission holds regular meetings at the Municipal
Building on the fourth Thursday of each month.
