BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS
Established by Sec. 6-1001 of the Zoning Ordinance of Oak Ridge.
Composition: The board is composed of five members appointed by the
Council for five-year staggered terms. Three members constitute a quorum.
The chairman is elected by the Board.
General Powers and Duties: The Board acts on matters where the Code
(Zoning Ordinance) provides for administrative review, interpretation,
exception, or special permit. Decisions are not subject to review by
another city governmental body, but they can be appealed through the
courts. The records of action by the Board are available for public
examination at the office of the Code Enforcement Administrator, Division
of Community Development. The Board does not have the power to change the
zoning classification of any property or to make any changes in the
provisions of the Zoning Ordinance.
Meetings: The Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the
Municipal Building. The chairman can call special meetings at such times
as the Board determines.
