BOARD OF ELECTRICAL EXAMINERS
Established by Section 9-66 of the Code of Ordinances of Oak Ridge.
Composition: The Board is composed of five members, at least two of whom
shall hold current and valid electrical licenses from the City of Oak Ridge
if qualified applicants are available. Members are appointed by City
Council for three-year staggered terms of office. Officers are a chairman
and a secretary, both of whom are elected by the board annually from among
its members. In the absence of the chairman, the board elects a chairman
pro tem. Three members constitute a quorum.
General Powers and Duties: The board sets standards and procedures for
the qualification, examination, and licensing of electrical contractors,
residential electrical contractors, appliance electricians, and journeyman
electricians, subject to the approval of City Council, and authorizes the
issuance of appropriate licenses. The Board may also reprimand, and
suspend or revoke licenses for cause. The records of the board are
maintained in the Code Enforcement Office, Division of Community
Development, and are open to inspection by the public.
Meetings: The board holds regular meetings at the Municipal Building on
the second Tuesday of each month. In any event, it shall meet within sixty
(60) days of receipt of an application to become a licensed electrician.
